Vectavir cold sore cream
What is Vectavir ?
Vectavir is a cream used in the treatment of cold sores. It contains an antiviral agent, called penciclovir, which is effective against the herpes simplex virus.
How does Vectavir work ?
Cold sores are caused by a virus (herpes simplex). The virus remains inactive within your body for a long periods of time, but when triggered it begins multiplying and a cold sore develops, usually around the lips. This can occur, for example, when you are run down, when you have a cold or flu, or when you have been out in the strong sunlight. Vectavir blocks the virus and stops it from multiplying. Applying Vectavir cold sore cream means your cold sore heals more quickly even if applied after the sore has begun to develop. Also, the length of time your cold sore is infectious and the time you have pain for will be reduced.
How to use Vectavir
If you’ve had a cold sore before always keep a tube of Vectavir handy and start the treatment the moment you feel that familiar first tingle. Even if the cold sore is at the blister stage vectavir will speed up the process.
Directions for use:
1. wash your hands before and after use.
2. squeeze a small amount of cream on to the tip of your finger.
3. apply to the affected area at 2 hourly intervals during the day and continue treatment for 4 days.
Important advice on Vectavir.
You should see your doctor if your cold sore does not heal properly after treatment. Vectavir is not harmful if a small amount is accidentally swallowed though it may cause minor irritation to the mouth.
Some irritation may also occur if you apply an excessive amount of cream to your skin. If you forget to apply the cream, use it as soon as you remember and continue the usual routine. Most people using Vectavir find it causes them no problems. You may experience a stinging, burning or numb feeling when you first start treatment, but these side effects should disappear. If any side effect worsens and becomes severe you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.
